Local Dumps/Recycling centers?

Reader Question:

“Is there a local “dump” here where I can get rid of some large bags of trash? It’s not large enough to need a truck, but I do have old electronics (computer bits), old clothes (not donate able), and misc household items. I would love to get rid of it. If there is such a place, I would appreciate the gouge.”

Your landlord should be able to help you with the disposal of bulky items. Each year, every household is provided with a couple of cards which must be sent to the company which removes them, and you have to list what you will put outside on your sidewalk. They will give you the date on which this will happen – you are not allowed to put your items out before the night before the collection.
Unusable clothes can be dumped in the Netherlands (e.g. Brunssum), there are public dumpsters for paper, bottles and clothes/material.
If you have household items that can still be used, give me your email address and I will give you some very good tips.

We went to the dump about 2 weeks ago and brought mostly rags old clothes not worthy of donations.he charged us 3 euros. Some things are free to get rid of like paper and batteries. They take small electronics and they have list of what they take and the costs. It was really very simple. Just drive around following the signs that say “Anmeldung” and stop on the scale. Someone will take a look at what you have and charge you and direct you to where to unload.

Here is a post under ‘Living in Gk Basics” with address and hours:

“Mülldeponie birgden Hanbusch.” (thanks to JM for this tip!)
    Open: Mondays – Fridays 0700 to 1700 except holidays & Saturdays 0800 – 1300
    Phone: 02454 – 6133
It is right on the K3 just outside of Birgden before Gillrath and it’s cheap (think 10 euro for a van load).
