The Review:
Burgers, Ice Cream, and more!

Robbins writes on HereAtGK.com, “The best burger you can probably find in 100 miles…” and I’m pretty sure I agree.  The burger was huge, probably a ½ pounder, the cheese was real cheddar, and the fixings, ketchup, and mayo were plenty.  The meat was done just perfect for a good quality beef- tiny bit of pink in the center.  It came with crispy salty french fries, served with regular ketchup, and a small 2-bite salad with honey-mustard dressing.  That was 10.80 or so.  A buck less for no cheese, 2 bucks less for the junior burger.  Also available was the Australian Burger, with avocado and pineapple, and the Chef Burger, a double with bacon and a fried egg.  The Cheese Burger was better than any burger I’ve had, probably ever.

Alte Ziegelei does have other items on the menu- pork medallions with mushroom sauce and pan-fried potatoes (also excellent- tender meat, crispy potatoes), pork and veal schnitzels, fish, steak, baked potatoes, various salads, and a few starters and soups.  Nice variety of hot drinks, wine, sufficient beer choices, and the unfortunately small 0.2L glass soda bottles for 1.80.  Comprehensive ice cream menu, attentive service, and the choice to eat inside or on the large patio.  I don’t know what they serve in between brunch and dinner- maybe just ice cream.  Good for a family outing as there is a little playground and working water pump, and you can just get ice cream cones, too.

After reading this post, we decided to return to the Alte Ziegelei, a nice place we had already gone to several times. We agree that the burgers are great, but you should not limit your choice to them. For American food, you might also want to try the Sportsbar of Bowl-Position in Kerpen, near Cologne. Bowling is expensive but the food is great (http://www.bowl-position.de/impressum.html).

I visit this place 2 or 3 times per month.
Probably the best ice cream in the area.
Furthermore, great playground for the kids with a little lake which has fishes and turtles.
