Especially appealing on a sunny, warm day, take the time to check out this area. An hour drive north lies the picturesque, small, historic town of Arcen on the Maas river. Beautiful Kasteeltuinen, (castle gardens) is one of the main attractions. The castle and surrounding 32 acres of garden opened to the public in 1988. Throughout the park are markers signifying what type of garden you are about to enter, with music piping through speakers, fulfilling the description of vitamins for the senses. A sampling of the varied gardens includes, the rhododendron, Eastern, Italian, shade, and formal.

Be sure to stroll over to the actual town of Arcen and enjoy the activities and scenery of the Maas. Walking along the river, consider stopping at Clevers ijssalons, or relax with a special Sunday brunch at Brasserie Alt Arce while watching the boats go by on the water. Consider taking your bikes, as there are extensive trails in which to ride through the villages, fields, or along the river. On the historic town square you will find many more cafes, shops, quaint Dutch architecture, and restaurants.
