“I think our new favourite is 2Landereck in Gangelt. It is right along the main road across from El Genio’s and just up from the Argentinian Steakhouse. It doesn’t look like much from the outside, but the food is too die for. They have Turkish food and we have not had a bad dish yet. If you like lamb, they have some of the best lamb dishes I have ever had. There are a few servers that speak English and they have an English menu if you ask for it. If you are going on a weekend I recommend a reservation as it is always packed when we go.”

This place is a great deal bigger than what it seems from outside. Don’t sit right where you walk in, keep going back, past the bar, and there is a huge room that is decorated in a really exotic way, reminiscent of Greece and/or south Asia (my better-traveled-than-I husband says). The menu is almost too big to decide on a meal. They have some Greek food, some Turkish, some German (schnitzel), some Italian (Pizza, baked noodle dishes, baked cheese-over-veggie dishes). The lamb we had was really good. I had an authentic pork dish (Schweine-Lachs something) which reminded me of the shakshuka from Israel; good comfort food, but next time I will go with something else. They have a small selection of fish dishes on Fridays that look really good. The appetizer platter couldn’t have been better, with its grilled/roasted zucchini (or was it eggplant?), red bell peppers, different spreads, warm bread, etc- almost big enough for a meal. Really impressive place.

If I am not wrong, Restaurant Zweiländer-Eck has changed management. The food is basically the same. I am an easy eater so not the best to ask if the food is really good or not. Well….the other one is better.

I lived in Gangelt from 2002 to 2006, and watched Zweilaender Eck develop from a small Gasthaus bar into a full-size Mediterranean restaurant. The Owner has done his best to ensure that the food is WONDERFUL, and the atmosphere is friendly and welcoming. Staff may not have the best English, but this is NOT a problem– Always helpful, and the locals even more so. Easily the best place within 20 km to drink Weissen Bier on a Wednesday night, let alone a Saturday. Always 5 Star from me.
